Press Release: Black hooded girls hold hands in solidarity while team mascots weep and naked men hold up flags announcing their surrender to nothingness. A chariot of animals threaded by string flee for safety while southern comfort nostalgia is waxed with NYC cynicism, and an American flag is made of match boxes awaiting their stripes to be struck. Cinders Gallery comes to Lump by way of Brooklyn, NY. The artists are made up of a diverse group who have all shown at Cinders in the past and help make up the gallery's current identity. This group show is inspired by the cultural differences of the North and the South, the idea of "Us against Them" in personal and political realms, and our respective "Teams" playing at each otherŐs galleries in a friendly ping pong match of artistic ideas. It is somewhere within these parallels of the personal, the political and the spectacle, that we present: "Team Cinders." Cinders Gallery has been in existence for over 2 years. It is located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn and has become an integral part in keeping the art community thriving and intact amidst the current condominium takeover. We will prevail.
