Part 1: December is almost here....the days are getting shorter, the wind a lot colder. Thoughts of Christmas may bring a different kind of chill for some of us, stirring up images of awkward family reunions, over-hyped New Years plans, and rampant consumerism. Plastic reindeer and baby Jesus being born on people's front lawns are about as abundant as social obligations and hangovers. This time of year seems to bring out the excess in all of us, from over-eating to over-analyzing, and can add perspective or take it away in one fell swoop. This holiday season Cinders would like to invite you to visit "The Family Room", a 2 part group show featuring 23 artists who are dealing with this time of year in many different ways. The show recreates a family room from our collective past that sets a stage for all of the art to exist together. The featured artwork is done by a loose-knit network or "family" of artists from all over the country and explores the idea of what family means to all of us during these winter months when our own families are inescapable. This show also investigates the transition out of the buzzing blur of holiday glee and into the dreary glum of January by actually having 2 parts. The first part will be presented in December and the second will be in January, with all new work by the same group of artists reflecting the change in moods of the different months. The actual installation will also change in subtle ways from month to month allowing for the show to have a dialogue with itself over time. We cordially invite you to visit both parts and experience this holiday season with us. Yours, Cinders See Pics from the Opening |
