Animals, hippies, nuns, confederate soldiers, and tribesmen all co-inhabit Diane Barcelowsky's intricate drawings, weaving twisted folk tales that blur the boundaries of time, space, and reality. This motley cast of characters can be found playing music, fighting a war, and having an orgy, often all in the same drawing and at times even upside down or coming off the page in collage. Paint, marker, watercolor, and ink are all used together to create a vibrant color palate with psychedelic patterns that effortlessly pull you into Diane's chaotic world. Amidst the haphazardness, there are moments of clarity, serene beauty and tragedy to be found, alluding to the rollercoaster ride our minds have the ability to take us on.
This is Diane's second solo show at Cinders. She currently lives and draws in New Jersey.
